IDRIS KALICHO-NORTHERN RANGELAND TRUSt - CIVIL ENGINEER
Idris Kalicho was born and raised in a small village called Mutunyi. He is the third born in a family of five. His father, who was the breadwinner for the family, died in 2000 when Idris was only four years of age, leaving behind their widowed jobless mother to take care of them. Growing up in the village, life was very challenging for him and his siblings. He did my Kenya Certificate of Primary School in 2010 at Mutunyi Primary School, with no hopes of proceeding to secondary school due to his family's financial status. He emerged as the best male student and was offered a scholarship by CSMF to join high school at Meru School. Idris worked diligently and when he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in 2014, he managed to score an A-. In 2015 he joined Kenyatta University for further studies and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Building and Civil Engineering in 2021. He is currently working with Northern Rangelands Trust as a structural engineer.
EVANS KINOTI-KMTC BOMET - DIPLOMA IN CLINICAL MEDICINE
Christopher is 16 years old and comes from a family of five. He lives with both his parents who are peasant farmers. With the prolonged drought being experienced in this region, farming is proving to be a very difficult thing to do right now. And so many families have been affected by the drought and Christopher's is not exempted. Two of his elder siblings finished high school but his parents could not afford to take them to university, the other two never went to high school due to a lack of fees. He is in form two at St Paul’s Kevote High School in Embu. When he grows up, he would love to be a doctor.
EVERLYNE AKENO -TEACHER AT CHUGU BOYS SECONDARY
Everlyne Akeno was born and raised in Mutunyi village by both her parents. She is now 30 years old teaching at Chugu Boys Secondary in Meru. She joined the CSMF family in 2009 when she joined high school. She went to Chuka University where she pursued a degree in Education Arts.
FRANCISCA APUA- INTERN AT CONSERVATION EDUCATION PROGRAM-LEWA
Francisca Apua is 27 years old and from Mutunyi Primary School. She joined the CSMF program in 2011 at 14 years old when she joined high school. Francisca was raised by a single mother who was jobless. She performed really well in her final primary school examinations and was admitted to Alliance Girls Secondary School in Nairobi. Given the standard of the school and the distance from Isiolo, she was distraught as her mother could not afford to pay for her but luckily CSMF came through and offered to support her.
When she sat for her final national examinations, she managed to score an A-. She later joined Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and graduated with a degree in Economics. CSMF opened her eyes to the many opportunities in the world and helped her understand and believe she could be anything she wanted to be and that she could dream as big as she wanted to. She completed her degree with second-class upper honors. She is currently interning with the Conservation Education Program at Lewa as a conservation educator.
